Mackenzie Shirilla killed her boyfriend and a friend in Strongsville, Cleveland, after crashing the car into a wall in a tragic accident. The video of her arrest went viral on social media after the young woman complained about the handcuffs.

In July 2022, Mackenzie Shirilla was arrested for the murder of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and a friend, Davion Flanagan. Body cameras of police officers captured the moment the young woman complained about the handcuffs during her arrest.

At the time of her arrest, Shirilla was 17 years old and had driven a Toyota at 160 km/h into a wall, causing the deaths of Russo (20) and Flanagan (19).

The video shows her in a police car, about to be transferred to another vehicle. A man identifying himself as Detective Hazou asks her to get out of the vehicle.

“I am responsible for investigating the accident. You are arrested for two counts of first-degree murder. No one is going to ask you any questions, no one is going to bother you,” Hazou says, putting new handcuffs on the young woman.

“Could you please be careful when taking this off, so you don’t break the bracelet, please?” Shirilla said, crying and sobbing.

The young woman’s reaction outraged internet users. “You intentionally take someone’s life, and all you care about is that they don’t break your damn bracelet?!” one of them protested.

Shirilla was sentenced to life in prison. The judge in the case, Nancy Margaret Russo (who is not related to the victim), stated that she intended to run over the two based on the security camera footage.
